We mend all sorts
I saw a sign in a shop window that read
“We mend all sorts”
And immediately questions
Jumped in to my head
Can you mend a broken heart?
Can you join two who have grown apart?
Can you patch the hole in the ozone layer?
Can you stitch the last line to a sampler’s prayer?
“We mend all sorts” is your proud claim
And I know that you are not to blame
For all the things too many to name
That cause such universal despair
Which we, the world, fail to repair
“We mend all sorts”
If only that were true
